Classic Legacy Personalized Gifts Business Travel & Stopping Along the Way

I am on my way today to Omaha, Nebraska for an important meeting with Borsheims.  I have three days to get to my destination.    Today my mind is on my long time family friend, Mike Knaus, who has just been in a horrible accident.   Today as I was driving I decided that I needed to stop along the way and “smell the roses”…….but it is Fall and instead of roses I’m finding many other delightful things.   I want to share my journey with you today.

Cotton is White for Harvest

As I journey through the farm land outside of Memphis and into Arkansas I just see fields of white.   It is cotton!   This is a beautiful time to see the cotton just as it is ready to be picked.   Many combines are out also.  I could not resist taking some photos.  This is how the idea of taking photos along the way began. (I am using my iphone.)

 Sunflowers Make the Day Cheerful

These happy sunflowers were very near the cotton.   They are reminding me to see the beauty in creation even along the dusty road.

 Soybeans Near by Lunch Stop

These soybeans were within steps of the place I chose to stop for lunch.   The large field brings to mind “America the Beautiful”  …..O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain, “…..These are soy beans in the field…..drying and soon ready to be harvested.  When you see an entire field it looks more golden but I wanted you to see the beans close up.

Pumpkins in St. Louis

I must admit these pumpkins were at Trader Joe’s in St. Louis!   I did however see pumpkins growing in several fields along the way…..but I got a close up view of these when I stopped for a break in St. Louis.

Cornfields in Missouri

Daddy used to grow corn.  It was always one of my favorite crops.   Many fields have already been picked so when I spotted this field I just had to stop and take a photo.

 Autumn Trees at the Farm

I arrived at the farm and noticed this glorious tree.   It is a standout……but even more than this tree other circumstances are standing out to me…..there is a man I’ve never met before at the grain bin helping to get the soy beans havested……you see this is what Mike would normally be doing but now his friends are all here!  This tree symbolizes the beauty of all the activity that I am about to discover.

Soybeans Harvested

Mother and I drove up to the grain bin and discovered soy beans gushing from the truck being fed to the augur and into the storage bin.   There are three huge trucks here transporting soy beans to the bins.   There are three big combines harvesting soy beans.   There are seven pick up trucks…..and men and women who are all friends of Mike helping to harvest soybeans!    This is a wonderful sight!

Friends and Family Appreciated

Please continue to pray for my friend, Mike.   He has been such a help to our family for so many years.   Today I saw friends of Mike in action and they were still working as the moon was in the evening sky.   I am glad that I stopped to ”smell the roses” along the way today.

Designer of Custom Gifts by Classic Legacy Inspired by Nature

Nature gives me a boost  and helps me to create custom gifts.   I took a break today and went on a long walk along the Wolf River in Memphis.  The Wolf River is in the middle of Memphis but this trail/walkway has been preserved to showcase the natural beauty of this area.   I salute the Wolf River conservatory for preserving, protecting, and restoring one of our community’s natural resources….the Wolf River.   Nature is inspiring!  Here are some photos from today’s walk.

Wolf River

The Wolf River is nearby.   The river itself is not very wide or deep now.   The trail that I walked on was beautiful!   This stream is pleasant and so peaceful.   I relaxed and saw nature at its best.Nature, Wolf River, Inspires Creativity for Classic Legacy Custom Gifts

Flowers

I was delighted to see so many wild flowers still in bloom.  This blue morning glory is one of my favorites.Morning Glory Blue Inspiring Classic Legacy Custom Gifts

Leaves

The wind was really blowing today and leaves are beginning to fall.  I love the fall color.  These leaves are beautiful.  One of the bottle stoppers that I have designed has a Fall theme. Leaves along Wolf River Inspiring Classic Legacy Custom Gifts

Thistle

The thistles were in bloom today.  I’ve never seen so many.   This is the Scottish flower and I’ve used this design on many of my Classic Legacy Scottish theme gifts. It was great to see a real thistle today.

I used to see polk berries in the Fall when I was growing up in Missouri.   I had forgotten about them!   My father used to tell me that the Indians used them for medicine and to dye cloth.   I sort of thought that was a folk tale but I think he was right.   I did some quick research and found this interesting article that supports that idea…..I don’t know whether it is true or not but interesting.   At any rate these berries have inspired others to create medicines and colorful threads.Polk Berries Inspire Classic Legacy custom giftsI hope you take time to get inspired by nature from time to time.   I know this walk along the Wolf River has inspired me to be more creative and enable me to continue to be enthusiastic about designing custom gifts.Stopping on a Bridge near the Wolf River Inspiration to Classic Legacy Custom Gifts

When I think about the Classic Legacy team I think of all the many people who inspire me .   They may not even know it but they are part of my team.   I want to share with you three  groups that inspire me.   Two are from  design blogs and the other  one Facebook.     I attended Blogworld for the first time just less than a year ago.   Look carefully in the photo I”m the second from the left in the second row.   I began to understand the  value of blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and all of Social Media.   Here are three that influence my Classic Legacy designs.  They give me inspiration visually and technically.

The Stone Gable

The Stone Gable Blog was first recommended to me by Sandy, of A Butler’s Pantry in Zionsville, IN.   I love this blog.  It is full of beautiful photography and everything is REAL……beautiful Tablescapes, recipes, tutorials, and a home & decor  section.     This blog fills my need to see beauty…..it is like a magazine but more real!  Here is one of her beautiful photos.

Mari Smith Facebook Expert

Facebook is  important  in business.   The question is, how do we stay on top of all the changes that seem to come constantly.   I have found an expert.  Her name is Mari Smith.  She was a speaker at Blogworld and is a delightful Scottish Canadian who now lives in San Diego.  I particularly like this recent post that describes the number 1 mistake that is made on Facebook personal profiles.   Be sure to read Mari’s blog and also follow her on Facebook.

Birthdays Celebrated at Classic Legacy with a Fun Request

This year the Classic Legacy team came up with a fun way to celebrate.   We go out and have lunch ….then do something fun ….a request from the person celebrating.   Dianne said she wanted us to play Skittles.   I had never heard of this game.   It is SO much fun.    Nothing electronic or fancy about this!   We found out we were all very competitive.

You will never guess what fun thing Beverly thought of for us to do…..ZUMBA!   Beverly goes to Zumba class several days a week for fantastic exercise.   Believe it or not she got us to go.   Although I took a photo of  the Classic Legacy team at Zumba you will just have to imagine  us there.  It was a riot.

The next birthday that Classic Legacy will celebrate is in October and then another in December.   One of those is mine and I’m thinking hard about what fun thing to do to celebrate.     I think it is important to take time to celebrate during the work day.     What do you do with your team to create fun and memories? I do look forward to your comments.     One of our most popular bottle stoppers is the birthday theme.  Team this up with a bottle of wine and celebrate!

Dianne Serves our Community through First Works

Dianne is dedicated to giving her best!   She gives her best to Classic Legacy but I admire her because she also gives her best to First Works.  Each week she volunteers by serving as a role model and leader to young children in our community.   Last week she taught them how to make a purse!  The base of the purse is a place-mat and the straps are made of ribbon or braid.  We say thanks and job well done to Dianne.
